Karen Wiltshire studied 3D design at Portsmouth Art College then joined a reprographics company to complete an apprenticeship in print. Karen then spent 23 years at one of the UK’s premier magazine printers with 12 years spent managing the prepress dept.
In 2010 KW Photography was established by Karen in Poole, Dorset. Then In 2012 Karen began to specialise in newborn photography and has since trained with many of the most renowned and well-respected UK photographers working in this highly specialised genre of photography. As a result, Karen has become one of very few photographers to develop the art of newborn photography, epitomised by the “sleeping baby” pose, which she achieves as a result of being fully at ease handling newborn babies, some as young as a few days old.
Karen is a specialist in maternity, newborn and baby, children and family portrait photography. In 2013 Karen achieved her “craftsman” qualification from the Guild of Photographers, her photographs were deemed to have demonstrated the highest levels of technical skill, exceptional creativity and presentation.
The Craftsman status is achieved by no more than 10% of the Guild’s membership of professional photographers.
Since establishing in 2010 KW Photography is quickly developing a reputation for excellence. In 2013 alone, Karen has won numerous accolades from The Guild including three Golds and three Overall winner awards in its Image of the Month competitions, and an assortment of Silver and Bronze awards, as well as Three Gold awards from the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. Karen was also nominated for Baby photographer of the year in 2013 with the SWPP.
2014 started with Karen being awarded the Guild of photographers Portrait photographer of the year and Overall Photographer of the year.
